The CENTREX 1000 N.E. is the non electric version of the CENTREX, and was developed for those without a continuous supply of 110 Volt power. Instead of a fan and heating element, the CENTREX N.E. comes with a 4" vent stack which exits from the front of the unit and acts like a chimney on a wood stove. This vent stack, which should be erected as close to vertical as possible, draws air into the composting unit to provide oxygen, evaporate liquid, and ensure odorless operation.

A 12 Volt fan should be used if the unit is to be used heavily or residentially: or is located where downdraft can occur, such as in areas surrounded by mountains or high trees. This fan draws only 1.4 Watts and can be powered with either a solar panel (5.5 Watt) and/or 12 Volt battery. It is supplied in a small section of 4" pipe for installation directly in the vent stack.

The CENTREX N.E. has a slightly lower profile than the CENTREX and stands only 26 1/2" high (the waste inlet is only 25 1/2" from ground level). Width is the same as the CENTREX at 32" but because the CENTREX N.E. has no fan housing, depth is only 23 1/2". Otherwise, all the installation considerations are the same as for the CENTREX (see above). Although evaporation is improved by the 12 Volt fan, the 1" hose (provided) should be connected, and any liquid which is not evaporated should be led to a drain pit or other approved facility.
