Long considered the standard in composting toilet performance, the large, Bio-drum in the EXCEL, makes this model the preferred electric, self contained unit wherever heavy or residential use is expected. The EXCEL is virtually indestructible, being made of marine grade stainless steel and beautifully polished fiberglass.

Composting speed and capacity on this unit are outstanding. The EXCEL has a Bio-drum with a large diameter from front to back which gives it twice the composting capacity of the COMPACT.The EXCEL's evaporating chamber and finishing drawer capacities are similarly large.

The EXCEL has been successfully tested by the National Sanitation Foundation over a continuous six month period at it's maximum rated residential capacity of four adults. The key test criteria were that the unit operated odorlessly throughout, and produced a compost that was clean and dry. Because of periods of rest, use by 6-8 people in a weekend and vacation setting presents no problems, and use by double these numbers is possible for short periods.

Installation of the EXCEL is very simple, and can often be completed inside two hours. As a waterless unit the EXCEL requires no plumbing hook-up. The main task is the installation of the 2" vent which is attached at the top rear of the unit. This vent can be installed invisibly, by running the stack through the wall and up the outside. As with all SUN-MAR units, the complete vent stack, including piping and fittings, is included with the unit.

For comfort, the EXCEL is fillet with a foot rest, which is detachable, and can be removed whenever it is necessary to pull out the compost finishing drawer below the footrest. The bowl liner beneath the regular sized toilet seat can be removed for cleaning as necessary.

Under normal conditions the electric fan (using 25 Watts), and the 250 watt thermostatically controlled heating element in the base of the unit, combine to evaporate any excess liquid which the compost cannot absorb. Although the EXCEL is normally able to evaporate all the liquid it receives, an emergency safety drain is attached at the rear, and this can be connected in the event of gross overuse, or prolonged power outages. The EXCEL should be plugged in to a regular 3 pin outlet when in use, but can be disconnected it the unit is not being used for 10 days or more.
